We’ve been thinking about a gap in how we celebrate and recognize developer achievements. Jira Service Management is fantastic for tracking issues, approvals, and workflows — but once a project milestone is hit, or a developer completes a big task (say, resolving 100+ tickets, finishing a sprint ahead of time, or contributing to an internal hackathon), how do you formally recognize that effort?
Right now, recognition tends to happen in Slack messages, emails, or quick shoutouts during standups. The problem is: these disappear. There’s no long-term, verifiable record that a developer can take with them as proof of contribution.
We’re exploring building an application that integrates with Jira Service Management to automatically issue developer recognition certificates or digital badges whenever key milestones are reached. Think of it as turning Jira data into official recognition.
For example:
Automatically issuing a “Sprint Hero” certificate when a developer closes X number of issues in a sprint.
Awarding a “Bug Fix Champion” badge when someone resolves a critical ticket in record time.
Giving team-wide milestone certificates when a big release goes live.
This could help project managers and team leads give developers something more meaningful than just a thank-you message — something they can showcase on LinkedIn or in their professional portfolio.
Curious to hear from this community:
Do you think this would add value in your teams?
How are you currently handling recognition for developers today?
Would you (or your devs) actually use something like this if it existed?
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!
Hi @ISSUE BADGE ,
This is a very interesting question! I think showing recognition and appreciation is very important to keep everyone in the team motivated. I love the idea of integrating gamification in Jira and creating badges and sending messages when hitting certain milestones.
We've used Achievers and Bonusly, although these are separate from Jira. Everyone seemed to enjoyed it.
Yes, I believe that anyone in my team would used something like this!
Have you used Atlas (now being rebranded). I found that Atlas could be used to recognize teammates in the same platform while integrating with Jira and Slack.
