Custom fields vs non custom field

Hi,

I would like to know why i have to use JQL (advanced search) in order to filter for example by "request type". Is there a way of doing it through basic search? I can do it with custom fields, whats the difference between them?

Thank you

@Alejandra González -

For JSM's Request Type, the actual internal name is named "Customer Request Type".  Your JQL should be something like the following -

"project = <your JSM project name or key> and "Customer Request Type" = "<your JSM project's request type".

Hope this helps.

@Joseph Chung Yin but why can i use the basic search for certain fields vs mandatory advanced search for others?

For Request Type, it is an limitation which you cannot do it in Basic search.

In the basic search, it works well for most cases.  However, custom fields can be configured by specific project context, thus if you don't specify a proper project or your project in question doesn't use the particular fields, then you will not be able to query against them.  (fields will be grey-out and have a warning indicator)

Hope this helps.
