Create work items via CSV Importer

Goal: I want to bulk CREATE child work items into a Project while simultaneously having the newly created child work item link to its EXISTING parent/Epic work item in that import.

CSV FileScreenshot 2025-08-28 093214.png

What I wanted was for the child work item for John Doe to be created and link under the Epic work item (SNDBX-92601) and I listed its unique issue ID that the documents asked me to notate (Note I am using the old experience).

Issues:

  • All documentation is telling me to map it to the Jira Field Issue ID but it is not showing up for me
  • The import worked in the sense that the child work item was created but it did NOT link to the parent.

Temp Solution:

  • Create a custom field for Parent Key (link field type) and then create an automation to link it.
  • Manually bulk edit all the child work items to its parents.

I would like to not have to use the temp solutions and have the CSM import do the work...

Hello @Mireya Cintora

What is the project Type for the target project? Get that information from the project list page at

<yourBaseUrl>/jira/projects?page=1&sortKey=name&sortOrder=ASC

The project type is important because it is not possible to establish the Epic/child-issue relationship during import to a Team Managed project.

How are you access the import feature? Are you clicking on the gear icon (near your avatar) and select System > External System Import? Or are you accessing the option available from the All Work screen?
