Hi,
As JIRA Cloud does not allow for individual project priority schemes, would it be fine to set the default priority as P4 for all projects as they can be changed as needed but in one project, I have automations set up that based on a field choice picked, the priority will be set to something else?
Would the default priority choice override the automation or automation override the default priority choice?
Thanks.
Hi, @Drishti Maharaj
In Jira Cloud, the priority of an issue can be set in multiple ways, including through default project settings and automation rules. When there are conflicting instructions for setting the priority, it's important to understand how Jira handles these situations.
By default, if you set a default priority (e.g., P4) for all projects, any new issues created within those projects will have that default priority unless explicitly changed. However, if you have an automation rule that sets the priority based on a field choice, the automation rule will take precedence over the default priority.
For example, let's say you have an automation rule that states: "If Field A is set to X, then set the priority to P1." In this case, when creating an issue in the project with that automation rule, if Field A is set to X, the priority will be overridden by the automation rule and set to P1, regardless of the default priority.
On the other hand, if Field A is not set to X or the automation rule doesn't apply, the default priority (P4) will be used.
It's important to note that the behavior may vary depending on the specific configuration of your automation rules and priorities. It's recommended to thoroughly test and validate the behavior of your automation rules and priority settings to ensure they align with your desired outcome.
Additionally, keep in mind that users with appropriate permissions can manually change the priority of an issue at any time, overriding both the default priority and automation rules.
Overall, while the default priority provides a starting point for new issues, automation rules can override it based on specific conditions defined in the rules.
