Cannot enable Email Batching

Deleted user April 2, 2021

Hi

Looking through site, the solution I found can be summarised as 'Go to System, toggle Batch email on/off'. On going to System, I find there is no reference to batch. See attached (fig1).

Secondly, a lot of our notifications are from updates where an action on a linked ticket (we are not assigned to), updates a secondary ticket (Which we are assigned to). The notification sees that as an update to our ticket, and sends a notification email

1. Can I stop those specific types of notifications from triggering
2. How can I stop a linked ticket from updating the main ticket.

Thank you

Hi John,

The batched notifications only exist on Jira Data Center for the time being. When enabled a single email will be sent for several changes on the same issue.
The open feature request for Cloud can be found here.

For your other question: what kind of updates are happening on those secondary tickets?
You'll have to adapt the notification scheme of that project and remove the notification recipients from the triggered event. I assume the event is "Issue Updated" but it depends on what is being changed on the issues.

Thanks guys, when is it likely to be re-enabled for Cloud.

According to a statement from Atlassian staff back from last summer (so it seems to be the most current statement on this) the batched notifications are available in Cloud per default:

https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Jira-Service-Management/Has-Batch-Notification-become-available-for-Cloud/qaq-p/1395280

However, it cannot be configured (by means of turning it on or off - therefore you do not see options to this) - this means, again according to the linked thread here in Community, it is "on" all the time.

Ah I see, many thanks Daniel. Much appreciated.

Here is more write-up from Atlassian regarding why Batching email notification was disabled for Jira Cloud env back in mid 2019 - https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Jira-questions/Is-the-Batch-Email-Notifications-feature-available-in-Jira-Cloud/qaq-p/1031512

In regards to your linked task update notifications, if those linked tasks are coming from other projects, then you need to also check the notification schemes used in other project too to ensure that your users are not included as a part of the notification event (Issue Update) to receive notifications.

In regards to linked issue from updating the main parent issues - You will need to check your project automation rules to see if there are any rules that trigger parent issue update from linked issue updates + also check to see if you have any custom setup in your project WF's post function calls that are doing the parent issues updates.  NOTE - if the linked issues are coming from other projects, then you will need to investigate what I just mentioned previously too.

Hope this helps.
