AutoClose if customfield (date time picker) is < now()

Hi all,

my team are asking for a function which close a ticket automatically if the due date passed. My question is more, there I need to put this script. As a trigger? Because this script needs to be checked at least once a day, I doubt it will be a postfunction during an transition.
