I see that I'm being billed for 6 licensed users but we have only 5.
Atlassian Guard charges based on unique users across your entire organization, not per individual product. If a user has access to Confluence, Bitbucket, or another connected Jira product, they still count as just one user for Guard. However, sometimes a deactivated or pending user still occupies a seat until they are fully removed.
I've noticed that sometimes people have users created outside the organization or even in Trello, which also counts towards the total. To get a clear picture, I recommend visiting admin.atlassian.com > Directory > Managed accounts (or Product access) to check for users marked as "pending," "invited," or "deactivated but not removed." Often, these extra seats come from accounts that were deactivated in Jira but not completely removed from the organization or from invites that are still pending.
Additionally, taking a look at Billing > Guard can be very helpful. This section typically shows exactly who is being counted, making it easier to identify any extra users, like the sixth one you mentioned.
Cheers, Martin
Hola Shane,
@Martin Runge’s answer covers the main place to check. Another possibility is that your Atlassian Guard subscription is using maximum-quantity billing. If your organization had six billable users at any point during the current billing period and one was later removed, the billed quantity may remain at six until the next billing period.
You can review the users being counted by going to admin.atlassian.com > select your organization > Billing > Atlassian Guard > Billed users.
Atlassian explains Guard billing and billable-user counts here.
If the sixth user isn’t shown there, or the count remains incorrect in the next billing period, I’d contact Atlassian Billing Support so they can review the subscription directly.
Thanks,
James
