whenever creating tickets, I used to assign groups to the Assignee group field, it is working, but the main thing is, assignee field also automatically selecting the users which are sometimes not the specified assignee groups.

Hello @Saji Sasi

this usually means the Assignee is being set by some other configuration, not by the assignee part itself.

The first things I would check are:

  1. Automation rules running on create or update
  2. the project Default assignee
  3. Components with a default assignee

So I would not assume Jira is selecting users randomly. In most cases, there is some logic in the background that is assigning them.

If you are using any kind of workload-based assignment in automation, that can also explain why different users are being picked.

From my side, I would start by checking the project configuration and automation rules first.

Hi Saji,

It sounds like the issue might be caused by an automation rule or a workflow setting that's automatically assigning users to the Assignee field, even when you're specifying a group. Here's a quick solution to help resolve this:

Check Automation Rules:
Go to Project Settings → Automation.
Look for any rules that might be automatically assigning users to the Assignee field and adjust or disable them if needed.
 Review Workflow Configuration:
Go to Project Settings → Workflows.
Check if there are any post-functions in your workflow that automatically assign users to the Assignee field, and modify them as necessary.
 Field Configuration Scheme:
Ensure the Assignee field is not set to default to a specific user by reviewing the Field Configuration.
 Permissions and Roles:
Double-check if there are any permission schemes or roles that might be automatically assigning users to tickets.
Once you adjust these settings, the Assignee field should reflect only the specified user or group.
