Assets - Best way to add Laptop owners?

What's the best way to accomplish this? I added an Owner field which can be set to any user but it sits at the bottom of the attribute details and it doesn't appear I can drag it above the standard fields?

Also, it doesn't appear to be searchable?

Hey Ben, are you able to provide a screenshot? 

To give you an idea, I have a few different type of "owner" fields where I am. 

We have "Responsible User", "Assigned To" and "Top Console User" 

All working fine- however I don't use the standard people field for this as it's not referenceable.
