๐ŸŽ JSM Advent Calendar - Day 8: Approvals (Checking the List Twice)

Jira Service Management - Advent Calendar_day8.png

โœ… The Naughty or Nice Check

Weโ€™ve set up the basics. Now, we need to manage the flow of authority.

The Scenario:

Before a toy goes on the sleigh, it needs a final stamp of approval from the Head Elf. You canโ€™t just let an unchecked "Experimental Rocket Skates" prototype slip into a stocking without a manager signing off on the safety risks!

The Reality:

HR processes are full of "gates." You canโ€™t process a payout, approve a 2-week vacation, or finalize a promotion without the right authority saying "Yes." Chasing these approvals via email ("Did you see my request?", "Can you sign this PDF?") is a nightmare. It creates bottlenecks and delays.

The JSM Solution:

Approval Workflows. JSM allows you to bake approvals directly into the ticket lifecycle.

  • The "Leave Request" Flow: When an employee submits a request, the ticket automatically transitions to "Waiting for Approval."

  • The Magic: JSM emails the manager with two simple buttons right in their inbox: Approve or Decline. They don't even need to log in!

๐ŸŽ Tip of the Day:

You can set up Complex Approvals for high-stakes HR items. For example, a "Salary Adjustment" might need approval from both the Direct Manager AND the HR Director before it can move to the Payroll team. JSM handles the logic so you don't have to be the "approval police."

โ„๏ธ Letโ€™s chat: How much time do you spend chasing people for signatures or email approvals? Is "waiting for manager" the number one reason your tickets get stuck?
