IT Support user onboarding experience

Hi there,

I wanted to share how we use the Custom Onboarding Experience feature in Personio for newly hired IT Support team members.
I am Natalia Lezhai, working as Collaboration Tools Lead in Personio in Berlin, Germany.

Nice! One restriction I see with the current functionality is that we cannot, unless I'm mistaken, customise the names / icons on the front screen.

So for example, if I wanted a different onboarding experience for Business Analysts versus Project Managers, this is currently not possible.

I'd also like the ability to force everyone through the Custom Onboarding at the click of a switch, but again I don't think this is currently possible.

But, I like how you've used the current functionality!

@Peter Norris regarding "wanted a different onboarding experience", yes you can create a custom onboarding for each of the 14 role categories users select from as part of the first start experience in Jira. 

All users already select from one of those categories regardless if custom onboarding is configured. This feature then allows a different custom welcome depending on the user selection. @Dominic Williamson I know you can create different Onboarding experiences, but I don't think we are able to rename the Roles, are we?

@Kristen Roth Thanks for the link. I do find Custom Onboarding easy to use; we just can't use it until we can configure the names of the Roles, and even turn off some options. We simply don't use Jira for some of those Roles so I would not want it to be displayed; it will just confuse people. Also we would want a different onboarding experience for different roles, e.g. Project Manager versus Business Analyst. At the moment it is not configurable enough.

@Peter Norris to help confirm, this screen shows to 100% of new users as part of Jira first time experience for the app.


All of your users already select from it today. It is not set by custom onboarding... Custom onboarding allows to you have a custom welcome based on the choice they are already making.

@Dominic Williamson thanks for the clarification. To be honest I don't think we've ever looked into what that current functionality does. I still believe it would be very useful to be able to customise those roles and icons to match our organisation's user community.
