We need the ability to update the Name field for customers, at the moment the Name field is only editable by the customer when they log into the portal.
We need to be able to update this internally, so that we know who we are talking to without the customer having to update something.
It would indeed be a great idea. The only thing to consider is that an Atlassian account is not specific to a site.
It would be better if (especially for CSM) you could add a secondary name to the account and I guess you could already do that with a customer profile field?
Otherwise if it is a true Atlassian account used on multiple sites it would cause the name to change on all those site (unless it's a portal only account)

I also found JSDCLOUD-4551 on Atlassian's Jira Site which sounds very similar. Please vote for and watch it for updates.
