Pass template variable to user macro (Confluence 6.x)

Following the steps outlined by @Jennifer Phelan here I suspect that this script has been written for an earlier version of Confluence (not 6.x). I have tried until exhaustion at getting this to work - despite the macro compiling ok, the variable is not fed into the page title nor is the page title named as "Weekly Status Meeting" as defined in the steps.
Does anyone know how to write this in Confluence 6.x? Thanks!

I'm not familiar with writing user macros specifically but have you had a look at the suggestions outlined below?

• The solutions mentioned in Variables in a Confluence page name

Hoping this can at least get you a step further.
