Can’t delete Atlassian account / can’t find “Delete site” after downgrading to Free

Hi everyone,
I accidentally created an Atlassian Cloud site (insiel-team.atlassian.net) and I’m trying to delete everything: the site and my Atlassian account.

Current situation:

  • I previously had Jira Premium enabled, but I already downgraded to Free. In Billing, all products now show Free (no paid plan).
  • When I try to delete my Atlassian account from id.atlassian.com, I get a message saying I can’t delete the account because I’m the last billing admin of a transaction account with active entitlements / non-cancelled subscriptions.
  • In admin.atlassian.com, I can see the site under Sites, and I can access Site settings, but I cannot find any “Delete site / Close site” option (no “danger zone”, no menu option).

Questions:

  1. What is the correct way/path to permanently delete an Atlassian Cloud site when you are the only admin and all products are Free?
  2. If the “Delete site” option is not available in the UI, what is the official process to have the site closed (support ticket, specific link, prerequisites)?
  3. What exactly must be removed/disabled so I can then delete my Atlassian account (and clear the “last billing admin” block)?

Thanks in advance!Atlassian.png

1. To permanently delete an Atlassian Cloud site when you are the only admin and all products are on the Free plan, follow these steps based on official Atlassian documentation:

- Log in to [admin.atlassian.com](https://admin.atlassian.com) and select your organization.
- Navigate to the **Products** tab.
- Locate your site (e.g., insiel-team.atlassian.net) in the list.
- Click the three dots (...) next to the site name.
- Select **Delete** from the menu.
- Confirm the deletion by typing "DELETE" or following the prompts, and provide optional feedback.

This process assumes all prerequisites are met, such as no active paid subscriptions (which you've already downgraded to Free), no associated domains, and no blocking apps or entitlements. If the site is the only one in your organization, deleting it may also allow you to delete the organization afterward via **Organization settings > Profile > Delete organization**.

If these steps don't work or the delete option isn't visible, proceed to the process in question 2.

2. If the "Delete site" option is not available in the UI (e.g., no three-dot menu or danger zone), it could be due to remaining active entitlements, apps (like Rovo or Atlassian Guard), domains, or other dependencies, even on a Free plan. The official process is to:

- First, ensure you've removed all domains, apps, and any lingering subscriptions or trials via **Organization settings > Domains** and **Products** sections. Wait for any required retention period (typically 14–60 days for deactivation).
- If self-service removal isn't possible (common for certain apps or if the site/organization is blocked), submit a support ticket to Atlassian:
- Go to [support.atlassian.com/contact](https://support.atlassian.com/contact).
- Select **Personal Data and GDPR** or **Billing and licensing** as the issue type.
- Explain your situation: You're the sole admin, all products are Free, you can't see the delete option, and you need assistance deleting the site/organization to unblock your account deletion.
- Provide details like your site URL (insiel-team.atlassian.net) and the exact error messages.

Atlassian support can manually remove blocks, delete the site, or expedite the process.

3. To clear the "last billing admin" block and delete your Atlassian account, you must eliminate all active entitlements, non-cancelled subscriptions, or associated sites/organizations tied to your account. Specifically:

- Delete or have Atlassian delete your Cloud site (as outlined in questions 1 and 2), which removes the underlying transaction account.
- If applicable, remove any domains, apps, or other products from your organization.
- Wait for any retention periods to pass (e.g., 14 days after deletion requests).
- Once resolved, go to [id.atlassian.com/manage-profile](https://id.atlassian.com/manage-profile) > **Account preferences** > **Delete account**, and confirm the deletion.

If you're still blocked after site deletion, contact support (as in question 2) to request removal of your billing admin role or full account closure.
