Hello, everyone,

I need help with deleting an Atlassian organization

  • I am the Organization admin.

  • All apps included in my active subscriptions were canceled and deactivated at Feb 12th (15 days ago) (as far as I can tell)

  • There are no domains (verified or unverified) listed under Directory > Domains.

  • When I attempt to delete the organization, I am still prompted to remove all apps.

  • There are no discovered or connected apps linked to the organization.
However I do see the apps that where in use when I click on "manage app" I only get to see the groups no option to delete. Also when clicking on the "..." menu, it also doesn't show a delete option. So not really sure I can do more or if they are deleted.

  • I have reviewed Atlassian’s documentation and followed all steps for deleting an organization, including removing all domains and apps (as far as possible)

For reference, this organization is a free organization created by me by mistake. It happened when I was visiting one of your product pages that offered a trial version, which caused me to end up with two organizations instead of having the product installed in the current organization (the right one).

I would like to installed Jira in the correct organization, while retaining the same domain that is currently being used in the incorrect organization.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards,
Iáson

Hello and welcome @Iason

this is usually not you missing a step. With Atlassian Cloud, the “cancelled” state can still sit as “attached” in the backend for a while, and org deletion stays blocked until Atlassian considers everything fully inactive.

What I’d do:

Go to admin.atlassian.com → Billing and check if anything is still shown as Active vs Inactive. Sometimes trials/subscriptions take longer than expected to fully flip.

If Billing looks clean but the delete flow still says “remove all apps”, then you’ve basically hit a backend cleanup situation and there’s nothing more you can click in the UI.

At that point, raise it with Atlassian licensing/support and ask them to remove the leftover/ghost app state so the org can be deleted (and so your domain can be reused in the correct org).

The domain bit is the key: until Atlassian clears the wrong-org association completely, it can block you from using it where you actually want Jira installed.

Have a great weekend ☀️

Hello @Iason

Welcome to the Atlassian community.

It can take some time for Atlassian to fully process the cancellation requests.

You may want to go to https://admin.atlassian.com/billing to see information about whether or not your apps are still considered Active or have moved to the Inactive list.

If you want to work directly with Atlassian to expedite the clean-up you can try reaching out to their Licensing support team by completing and submitting the form here:
