2 step verification setup

Dear ,

I have enabled 2 step verification and activated my microsoft authenticator app , it was working well .

Recently I changed my mobile phone and I can not activate the new authenticator app , and each time i need to use recovery code .

Hi @Ahmed Elshenawy Although this question is actually not related to Atlassian itself, you can try the following:

If you turned on cloud backups on your old device, you can recover your personal accounts automatically:

1. Install Microsoft Authenticator on your new phone.
2. Open the app and tap Begin Recovery or look for Restore from backup.
3. Sign in with the personal Microsoft account or cloud account used on your old phone.
4. Follow the prompts to finish the recovery.

If cloud recovery is unavailable, you must re-add each account manually:

1. Log in to the target service or website (Atlassian account) using an alternate verification method, a backup code, or email/sms verification
2. Go to the Security or Two-Step Verification settings of the account.
3. Remove or delete the old authenticator verification method.
4. Re-add 2FA and generate a new code.

You can try this:

Note: Before starting: Keep your recovery code available. Do not delete your old Authenticator registration yet.

1. On your computer, open Microsoft Security Info.
2. Enter your Microsoft work/school email address and click Next.
3. If you get the popup you showed me saying “Use a saved passkey for login.microsoft.com”, click Cancel. Do not select “Use a phone or tablet.”
4. On the Microsoft sign-in page, click Sign-in options.
5. Select the option that allows you to use another verification method / recovery code. Use your recovery code as you normally do to complete the sign-in.
6. You should now reach the Security info page. Look for + Add sign-in method.
7. Click Add sign-in method and select Microsoft Authenticator or Authenticator app.
8. Microsoft will ask you to install Microsoft Authenticator. Since you already have it on your new phone, click Nextuntil a QR code appears on your computer.
9. On your new phone, open Microsoft Authenticator.
10. Tap + (Add account) → Work or school account → Scan QR code.
11. Use your phone to scan the QR code displayed on your computer.
12. Microsoft should then send a test approval/notification to your new phone. Approve it to finish registration.
13. Back on the Security info page, confirm that the new Microsoft Authenticator method appears.
14. Test it before deleting anything. Sign out and sign back in, then confirm that the authentication request reaches your new phone.
15. Once you've confirmed the new phone works, return to Security info and remove the old Authenticator/old phoneregistration.

Important: Keep your recovery code until Step 14 succeeds. If Microsoft doesn't give you a recovery-code/alternative verification option at Step 5, don't keep experimenting with the account settings. Send me a screenshot of the options you see, and I'll tell you which one to use.
