As in 3.1 of JSD? You'll need to upgrade to JIRA 7.1.
1.1 is the highest.
I'd very strongly recommend a JIRA upgrade to at least 6.4 to remain supported and enable higher versions of JSD (JIRA 6.3 support goes away this month, so you want to be on at least 6.4 as soon as possible)

Basically our plan is to configure new Standalone JIRA Service Desk application setup (latest version) on separate server machine and wanted to integrate it with current JIRA setup (which is on 5.2.11). Right now we don't want to touch current JIRA setup ( upgrading JIRA setup is not possible). what will be the approach/workaround in such cases?

@SAS,
I'd suggest having a look at this page for compatibility https://marketplace.atlassian.com/plugins/com.atlassian.servicedesk/versions
Thanks,
Warren

Right, that is probably the worst possible thing you can do here.
You are effectively saying you will have two separate JIRA systems, one with current JIRA and the other with JIRA + Helpdesk and you're going to need to write code to "integrate" the two. If you do insist on doing this the hard way, then start with a full description of what you mean by "integrate"

Seriously, upgrade it. It's the fastest, easiest and cheapest route and it won't leave you with piles of obsolete integrations to try to merge in or support.

Thank you so much for your feedback.
We are just thinking one more approach, we will setup separate instance of JSD ( with latest version ) and will migrate only those projects which need JIRA service desk from current JIRA ( 5.2.11) to this new setup. So is it feasible or any technical limitations? Thanks.

Yes, but it's hard work.
The most simple migration will need to:
Note, that assumes that your new JIRA already has data in it. If you're starting clean, then you can clone your old system, delete unwanted projects and config, upgrade it and add Service Desk.
