Welcome Wednesday: Happy New Year!

Happy Wednesday New Year Everyone!

I hate New Year’s Resolutions, I know I’ve mentioned this in the past and I still feel that the standard things people fall back on are goals that are too large to make you feel like you are making progress to achieving them. I do think that this time of year is great for reflecting on everything that has happened and deciding if you thing you did better than the year before.

Personally, we spent a significant amount of time in the beginning of the year finding a new home closer to family we loved and preparing our own house for sale. This was an extremely stressful time, as was the actual move in July. However, we have been able to explore our new small town, spend more time with family and we have some wonderful neighbors that we have built friendships with. Professionally, I went from being fearful about a lack of flexibility before forced back to the office to being officially designated as a remote employee with the reduced stress of being able to support my family and still be a very productive employee.

I would encourage you all to do your own personal reflection and strive to make 2025 the best year it can before for yourself!

Have a great rest of the week everyone!

I am adopting the word "resist" for 2025.

  • Resist the temptation to eat those things that I know are not the best for my health.
  • Resist the temptation to take the elevator when the stairs are the better choice.
  • Resist the urge to binge watch movies rather than read that good book I purchased.
  • Resist the desire to lobby for my way when there are multiple solutions which merit exploration.
  • Resist "easy", embrace challenge.

Happy 2025!

While 2024 was extraordinarily difficult times as a family and parent, there were so many highlights as well. This year, my goal is to find joy and document it, eve as we continue to navigate some tricky things. The last few months, I've found that I was really focused on the "suck" and ignoring the small moments of joy we experienced often. I created a joy jar where we can write a quick note and stick it in each week to note a highlight. Hoping to set a good routine and add notes as things happen, but ensure at least one is added each week by each family member. 💜

Hi @Jimmy Seddon,

Happy New Year! 🍀

What a heartfelt reflection—thank you so much for sharing this! 💙 It’s so refreshing to see an honest perspective on the pressure of New Year’s resolutions and the value of simply reflecting on growth instead.

Wishing you an amazing 2025 filled with more moments of peace, growth, and connection.

I've never had some new year decisions and goals I would set as the year starts. As I usually enjoy what I do (or at least I tend to), doing all those 'small steps' mostly brings me some kind of joy. And by doing so, every year I could take a look back and see all the progress I've made.
That's probably the one:

Enjoy the process more than the destination...

Happy new year everyone! 🎉

Last night, I was pondering what I resolved to do last year (a simple daily task) and how very little time elapsed before I abandoned that plan. 😏

I have a job I enjoy and feel appreciated for, I have friends and family to spend my time with, and I live in a place I enjoy. This year I resolve to remember and appreciate all of these facts.

Happy New Year everyone!

I am also not a fan of the 'mandatory goal setting' at the beginning of the year. 2024 was a wild year for me; it was packed with difficult moments and important decisions, so I entered 2025 still a bit confused.

I will generally follow the rule I stand by every day: do better tomorrow and learn new things, and I trust it will help me achieve short and long-term goals.

I don't have goals. I have ideas. And ideas are bulletproof.

I'll be exploring some new ideas in 2025.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

I hear you on New Year’s Resolutions—same here. Big, lofty goals always feel like they set me up for guilt halfway through January. Instead, I’ve been trying to focus on smaller wins that actually feel achievable. Last year, I swapped 'get in shape' for 'walk more,' and I actually stuck with it (my dog is a big fan of this new system).

Your year sounds like a mix of stress and reward—moving is such a huge thing to tackle, but it’s so worth it when you find the right place. I bet getting to spend more time with family and settling into a new small town makes all the chaos feel worth it. And congrats on going fully remote! It’s a game changer to have that kind of flexibility while still being able to get things done.

For me, 2024 was about trying to juggle work projects while carving out time for personal goals. I finally tackled organizing a big chunk of our team’s reporting process, which felt great—but let’s just say my home office still looks like I’m mid-move (even though I haven’t gone anywhere).

Here’s to 2025 being about progress, reflection, and hopefully fewer bubble wrap situations for all of us! Wishing you a fantastic year ahead.

Just listening to a show on NPR as I work. They are doing an interview with T Bone Burnett about his Grammy nomination (https://www.wbur.org/hereandnow/2025/01/02/t-bone-burnett-other-side). They played part of a song with what sounds like a good philosophy for life that I thought I'd share for the new year:

I'm gonna get over this someday. I might as well get over it now.

I think I've pretty much lived my life this way, but I've never heard it put into words before.

2024 was chaotic and wild, to say the least - both personally and throughout my professional network. 🤯

While I don't tend to create New Year's Resolutions, I do make use of the "end of year lull" to refocus, hone and organise for the year ahead.

All the best for 2025, folks! 🤙🏻

Happy New Year, everyone! And @Jimmy Seddon , thanks for a 2024 full of Welcome Wednesdays!

I used to make goals in various categories like work, house projects, etc. In my 20s, I was actually good at achieving those goals, but as life moved forward I made many goals each year and achieved fewer. So a few years ago, I stopped making lists of goals and worked on two: find joy in something every day, no matter how small it is; and pay more attention to the present than the past and future, or as @Tomislav Tobijas said it better, "Enjoy the process more than the destination". ☺️
