Hi, how do I change color on a list? I can see that people have asked similar questions but it only looks like it is the cards that change color, I want to background of the list to change color. Is this possible?
Hi Robert
I have different coloured lists, and I have these by using Chrome and enabling the Pro4Trello extension which can be found here: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/pro-for-trello-free-trell/hcjkfaengbcfeckhjgjdldmhjpoglecc?hl=en
Mine looks like this:
I also found this website really helpful when trying to pick CSS colours as you have to type the name in properly otherwise it doesn't change the colour: https://www.w3schools.com/cssreF/css_colors.asp
Hope that's helpful

I also use the Chrome extension. I find that being able to add color allows me to just glance at a board and get a good sense of things that might be slipping through the cracks.

Thanks both of you, this gives me 2 questions.
1. Since this is a Chrome extention, the changes will only be shown for me?
2. I can't find the setting for changing the list background colors?
Thanks,
Robert

Hi Robert,
The changes should be shown for you as you have Chrome, if others have the Chrome extension, in theory, they should be able to see the colours as well, however I use Trello on my own so I can't say 100%!
To change the colours of the links, click on the 3 dots in each list and add the colour to 'background colour' that you want:

Pro for Trello is discontinued after this latest update and Trello still hasn't offered a native option. Very sad they don't listen to customers who have been asking for this for years.

Agreed. Actually Atlassian have a track record in giving the middle finger to their customer's requests.

I understand there are work arounds. Nonetheless, still wish Atlassian would add the color option for lists. It is native functionality to change the "cover" for Cards, why not enable "covers" for lists or a similar approach to enable List colors?

I completely agree.

The fact that there's been enough demand for 3P solutions to crop up clunkily, proves it was a dropped ball in the design that should have been able to be post-coded since without much. Wonder why it hasn't?

I use the free version of Night-Eye (Night-Eye Lite) as a browser extension in MS Edge.
I set Trello as one of the five free websites the extension offers that it will automatically switch into a dark mode on a Windows laptop. This has worked for me for ages.
However, since Atlassian began offering this "new" theme option, my setup no longer worked. Even in "original" theme mode, the Trello list backgrounds were now a blinding white.
After playing around with it a bit, I got my Trello mostly back to how it worked before. I navigated my browser to Trello, opened Night-Eye options, clicked Custom CSS, and entered:
.list {
background-color: #333333;
--list-title-color: #e6f7ff
}
This did the job.
Really wishing Atlassian would provide native list background color options. But here we are.

Hi @Robert Broström,
I was also looking to do this. While it isn't a core function in Trello, you should checkout the answer the answer over here as it might help you out:

Some great news! List colors and collapsible lists are coming to Trello! Check out our recent post for more details - https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Trello-articles/Do-your-boards-have-you-feeling-the-blues-Prepare-to-spark-new/ba-p/2618194

On my board, the colouring of list backgrounds is included only in a paid option. The board looks completely underwhelming and unusable with lists of the same colour piled up in an undistinguishable heap on my board. I am new to Trello, but I have lost any enthusiasm I had to start with. How can such a basic feature be a paid option if you offer free trials to learn about this tool? Like having to pay for the fourth wheel on the test drive when you want to sell me a car.

Another workaround but a simple one: Use a vertical striped background or a gradient background for your board. Use an image of stripes or a gradient that approximately lines up with your columns.
