I created the account using only the full name Mike, so I think Trello only used the M. Now I want it to show 'MH'. Ivé tried changing the avatar to a pic, saving and then back to my initials, but it still only shows M - despite the fact that I now have a full name Mike Haines

ps = in a team this change will make it much easier to see whos who in a calendar view etc

You can edit your initials under Profile and Visibility. This worked for me.
