How to create a 'list' that contains several cards and save as a template?

Can I create a 'list' that contains 6 different cards and save it as a template?

If yes, is there a way to hide the template?

Hi @Mary Henderson

You can create template boards and template cards but not template lists.  As Trello is so open, there are many ways you could achieve what you want.  Here are some examples:

  1. You could create a template board to store different template cards and use automation to pull them into your main board when you need them.  (this can be based on certain triggers or by a button)
  2. You could put them as template cards in an existing list and select the template cards as hidden
  3. Depending on what information you need in the template cards, you may not need them at all.  You could use something like the ability to convert checklist items to cards by automation.

Thank you Mike with these ideas - super helpful!

Ok so I need to assign tasks to different users, but when I tried to add all my tasks onto one card template, I couldn't assign tasks to different members - I think it's reserved for paying members. Is that correct? So think i'm out of luck.

Yes, that is something that comes with a paid subscription.

Do you have just 1 board that you and the other members use?

Yes, we have just one board that we are all sharing.  I am trying to create a On/Off Boarding Template that has everyone's tasks - so I would need to assign each tasks to a different person, and it doesn't look like I have access to do that. But maybe there is a work around.  Thanks for your help!

If you only have 1 board that your team members access, it is well worth getting a Trello subscription. All the time they are only on 1 board, they are single board guests and not billed.  Your account can be the one to be a workspace member, with access to multiple boards.  You can have template boards as you suggest and use automation to bring the cards to the team board.  So for the cost of either $6 or $12 per month (or $5/10 per month if you pay yearly), you'll get all the features and I believe it will transform how you use Trello.

ok great! So if have a subscription I can create templates, assign tasks to different people within each card and share the template with those who don't not have a subscription.
