How to set component and component group position by API

I have already learned from another post and the documentation that it is still not possible to define the position of the components and component groups via API. However, this is an important function for us to be able to use the product efficiently. Unfortunately, manual positioning via the UI is not really an option for us in the long term. Hence the question if Atlassian is planning to add this function in the near future. Or is there already an undocumented way to define the position via the API?
