Why can't I login to atlassian via sourcetree while have no problem logging into the bitbucket site?

Ryan J. Decker October 20, 2018

I login to bitbucket.org no problem via the Web site.

I use my exact same account with sourcetree and can't authenticate to push changes to the server.

I had to delete the passwd file to authenticate push / pull requests from SourceTree to BitBucket. Here's where I found my solution:

https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Sourcetree-questions/How-to-update-HTTP-S-credentials-in-sourcetree/qaq-p/297564

Here's what I did...

I deleted this file:

%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Atlassian\SourceTree\passwd

Then I simply attempted a push, signed in to bitbucket from a prompt, signed into a second prompt, then the push worked and I haven't had a problem since then.

Hi @Ryan J. Decker, welcome to the Community!

We need more info to troubleshoot your issue:

  • It sounds like you might be using Windows, if so, is Internet Explorer updated to the latest version? (Sourcetree relies on it for the authentication step)
  • What steps are you following to connect your Bitbucket Cloud account?
  • Are you getting any error message? Can you post a screenshot?

Let us know!

Ana
