Opening JIRA issues by email with only delimited text as issue description?

Olivier Gwynn January 20, 2013

Hi,

We are using mail handlers to open issues in JIRA when a user sends an email.

We would like to only catch a delimited text from the email and not the whole email body (includins signature and so on).

Is this possible with JIRA OnDemand?

Example, only catch text before *--:

*--

Please write above this line.

Dear user,

Thanks for contacting support.

Please enter your issue description and attach relevant screenshots.

Thanks,

Your support team.

Users signature

Users phone number

ETC.

The Studio EmailHandler seems to work but only for comments, we would like this for opening tickets via email.

I had a quick look with the Split Regex but wasn't able to make it work.

Thanks a lot for your help.

Kind regards,

Olivier

As of now, there doesn't seem to be an option to do that in OnDemand Jira. Handlers that create comments can use regex to truncate the unneeded part of the message, but the ones creating new issues don't have that option. There's an improvement request for that functionality, though: JRA-31385 - all interested in implementing the change are encouraged to vote for it.
