alert grouping

Pierre Kelbert October 8, 2022

Is opsGenie able to group a same alert issued from several sources?

If in a cluster for example, several nodes have a problem with the network, is it possible to group all the alerts into one while keeping the information of which node is impacted?

I've looked at the alias of an alert, but I don't think the value should be shared between multiple sources.

At this point, I think that it is not the responsibility of opsGenie to handle this logic but more to a tool like AlertManager (in front of opsGenie), am I right?

Thanks for your help!

Hey Pierre,

As per the deduplication capabilities of Opsgenie, you can indeed deduplicate alerts from several integrations into one as long as they have the same alias and are open. You can learn more about alert deduplication here: https://support.atlassian.com/opsgenie/docs/what-is-alert-de-duplication/

So to implement what you want you will have to configure the integrations to trigger alerts with the same alias when they are from the same cluster for example and the impacted node name can be added as a note. This is because when alerts are deduplicated, the added notes on it are shown separately for each alert and not merged into one.

Hope this helps and feel free to let us know if you have any further queries.
