Integration with Microsoft Teams private channel

David Zehm February 18, 2025

I see the V2 integration with microsoft teams for opsgenie found here:

https://support.atlassian.com/opsgenie/docs/integrate-opsgenie-with-microsoft-teams-v2/

It would appear that there is not an option to setup a connection with a private teams channel. When setting this up in teams, it only lists out an option to select non private channels. Is there a way around this or has anyone been able to do this?

We ran into this with integrating another Atlassian product to a private Teams Channel. What we ended up doing, is using webhooks to send out from the platform into Workflows (or PowerAutomate) which then can shoot a message in a private channel on your behalf, or by means of the webhook.

This support guide walks through a lot of the setup for connecting via Webhook.

It's not cute, but once you get it working, you don't really need to touch it again.

We took it a step further and used adaptive cards in the workflow so the channel posts would look nicer and have some buttons that users can interact with. You can also just leave it as raw text.

I like the idea! But in classic Atlassian fashion, it looks like they keep the webhook integration for opsgenie behind their higher priced plans...

What plan are you on for Opsgenie? Do you use JSM and if so, which plan?

I know they are migrating Opsgenie into JSM directly. I wonder if that would streamline things a bit on the automation.

Essentials Opsgenie plan and no JSM, only Jira and Confluence.
