I'd like to set a tag on an alert in Opsgenie from an AWS CloudWatch alarm.

We use tags to route alerts to different Opsgenie team escalation paths.

I checked this post Integrate Opsgenie with Amazon CloudWatch and didn't see any tags set in the examples.

Hi there David!

Thanks for writing into Community, I'm Talar from the Atlassian Opsgenie support team, happy to help!

If you pop into the CloudWatch integration, and then click on the "Create Alert" rule under "Incoming", you will see an option here to add tags - hardcoded or dynamic.

This screen will look a little different depending on the plan you're on! The screenshots below are specifically from the "AWS CloudWatch" integration, but most integrations behave in the same way.

The basic steps will be:

  1. Go to the integration
    • On Free or Essentials this will be via, Teams -> YourTeamName -> Integrations
    • On Standard or Enterprise it can also be via Settings -> Integrations
    • NOTE: If you're unable to see any of the above, its likely due to your user role + permissions - please consult your Opsgenie Owners/Admins
  2. Under "Incoming | Rules for creating and processing alerts" click on the "Create Alert" action: Screenshot 2023-10-02 at 9.05.13 am.png
  3. Adding the tags:
    • If you're on Free or Essentials you will see "Tags" right at the top of the window that shows up
    • If you're on Standard or Enterprise, there will be "Show all properties" toward the bottom of that pop-up, click on this to expose the "Tags" field
  4. Now, you can click and drag from the property fields, or type in "hard-coded" tags

  5. From this screen, you can also edit/update what the contents of other fields will be in your Alert if you'd like
  6. When you're ready, hit "Save" at the bottom

Hope this helps!
