Streamline Your Alert Management: A Step-by-Step Guide to Integrating Email with Opsgenie

Wouldn't it be great if you could get alerts right in your inbox? Well, you can! Opsgenie makes it easy to integrate your email with its system. There are several ways to do this, including using product-specific integration plugins for popular monitoring tools, a web API, and a command-line utility. In this article, we'll walk you through how to set up email integration with Opsgenie.

Getting Started

First, log in to your Opsgenie account. Then go to Settings > Integrations and search for Email. You'll then be able to create your email integration by specifying who should be notified of alerts and customizing the integration's name.

Each email integration is assigned a unique email address that you can customize. When you receive an email at that address, Opsgenie will automatically create an alert for it. By default, the email subject will be used as the alert message, and the body will be added to the alert description. If the email is in HTML format, Opsgenie will even attach the original email to the alert.

Note: For Free and Essentials plans, you'll need to add the integration from the Team Dashboard. Don't worry, we'll show you how!

Advanced Configuration

If you want to get even more out of your email integration, you can use the advanced settings. These allow you to:

Notify different people of different emails

Acknowledge or close alerts using resolution/recovery emails

Modify the alert content by parsing the email using string-processing methods

For example, you can create rules that say if an email's subject starts with "DOWN" or "FAILING", a new alert should be created. Or if an email's subject contains the word "test", it should be ignored.

The advanced configuration also lets you define filters based on things like the sender's name, subject, or message fields. And, you can choose from several different actions for processing incoming emails, including creating an alert, closing an alert, acknowledging an alert, and more.

Wrapping Up

With Opsgenie's email integration, you can stay on top of all your alerts without ever leaving your inbox. Whether you're a beginner or an advanced user, you can customize your integration to meet your needs.
