Hi Eliah,

Are you able to search for the user you want to assign? If not, what happens when you try to search? If you could include screenshots or a video that would be helpful!

Thanks,

Josh (Developer on Jira Android)

hi,

the assign field in the mobile application is not a text field where i can type something and search (i wish). it simple a list where i can choose myself, unassigned or Automatic.

this is exactly what i need. to have an option to search or choose anyone else. does your mobile application show you something else?

Hi Eliah,

See the screenshots attached below and let me know if it looks different for you.

The search field isn't focused by default but you can tap the part where it says 'Search assignees' to search for users to assign the issue to.

Let me know if you don't see the same thing!

@Eliah Ninyo Thanks for the screenshot, that is very helpful. It does appear to be a bug on our end, just need to understand what is happening so we can fix it - so I just have a couple of questions for you:

1. What device are you running the app on?

2. What OS version of Android is the device running?

3. If you tap the reporter field or any other user picker field, do you get the same problem?

Thanks for your help getting to the bottom of this, I want to unblock you from assigning people on the go as quickly as possible!

@Eliah Ninyo,

I have a feeling it might be related to right-to-left (RTL) language/ device settings. Do you have your phone language set to a RTL language? Or do you have any other device settings that would cause some right to left behaviour? I see from the icons in the status bar that your battery, wifi, cellular signal etc are on the left and your clock on the right (the opposite to where they are in my screenshot)

In any case, this is definitely a bug on our side and I have created an issue for us to tackle in the next week - this is just more information that might help us solve it quickly! Thanks for reporting the issue :)

EDIT:

I have just done a quick check and we are actually disabling RTL for our app (because we don't support any RTL languages for translation and as you have found, haven't developed the app to be RTL friendly). However it seems that there are a few Android components built by Google that we're using that have a bug where they don't respect the RTL setting of the app. https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/122634650 We will try to find a workaround to this issue in the meantime. Thanks for your patience

Hi @Josh Carolan ,

I indeed use right-to-left language (hebrew).

Since you disabling it in your app, it should be irrelevent so i dont understand the problem.

I also have an issue with the text od a state of an issue inside the issue view. Maybe is is also related.

Hope you will solve it soon since it is very annoying.

Totally understand it is annoying! I will let you know when we have fixed it and which version of the app the fix will be in.

Yes exactly, it shouldn't be a problem but there is a bug on Google's side which means that some UI components aren't respecting our RTL setting, so we just need to work around that bug until Google fixes it :)

Hi Eliah,

Thanks for your patience with this. We have fixed the issue with right-to-left languages and the assignee search in version 37 which is currently rolling out. It is in our beta channel at the moment and will roll out to production users throughout the week.

If you want the fix right away, you can sign up to become a part of our beta tester program following the instructions here: https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Jira-articles/Sign-up-to-be-a-beta-tester-for-the-official-Jira-native-apps/ba-p/1024355

Thanks again for reporting! Let me know if you have any other issues or another pesky right-to-left bug appears for you :)
