I want to set up bi-directional communication between Wiz and Jira.

I’m trying to set up advanced integration between Wiz and Jira to enable bi-directional communication. This integration will allow for automation of ticket closure and assignment etc.

https://www.wiz.io/integrations/jira

Since I’m a beginner, could you guide me through the process? What steps do I need to follow to set this up?

Hi, @t476500 See if this helps you:

Requisites:

  • Jira Cloud account with admin permissions.
  • Wiz account with access to integration settings.
  • Access to the Wiz documentation to ensure compatibility.

Steps to Set Up Bidirectional Integration between Jira Cloud and Wiz:

1. Access Wiz Integration Page

  • Go to the Wiz integration page that you mentioned: Wiz Jira Integration.
  • On this page, you'll find details on how to connect Jira with Wiz. Make sure you have the appropriate permissions in both platforms.

2. Connect Jira to Wiz

  • In Wiz:

    • Log in to your Wiz account.
    • Navigate to the Integrations section within the Wiz dashboard.
    • Find Jira and click to add the integration.
    • Wiz will ask for your Jira Cloud URL and an API token for authentication.
  • In Jira:

    • Generate an API Token in Jira by going to Account Settings > Security > API Tokens.
    • Use this token in Wiz to authenticate the communication.

3. Setting Up Bidirectional Communication

  • Bidirectional integration typically involves sending data from one system to the other (and vice versa). Here are the main steps:

    a. Define Triggers in Jira:

    • Set up automation rules or webhooks in Jira Cloud to send specific events to Wiz. For example, when a ticket is closed in Jira, send this information to Wiz for updating.

    b. Set Up Webhooks in Wiz:

    • Within Wiz, you’ll need to define how events are sent back to Jira. For example, when a vulnerability is resolved in Wiz, Jira should be notified to update the ticket’s status.

    c. Map Fields:

    • To ensure smooth bidirectional communication, it’s important to map the relevant fields between Jira and Wiz, such as ticket status, assignees, and comments.

4. Test the Integration

  • After setting up the integration, perform some tests to ensure that the communication between Jira and Wiz works as expected.
  • Create, update, or close a ticket in Jira and see if the updates reflect in Wiz.
  • Similarly, create or resolve a vulnerability in Wiz and see if Jira is automatically updated.

5. Automation and Custom Rules

  • Once the integration is working, you can add advanced automation rules in Jira (like status transitions) to automatically manage tickets based on information from Wiz.

6. Monitoring and Adjustments

  • After implementation, monitor the integration and adjust as needed. Ensure that data is exchanged efficiently without errors.

Important Tips:

  • If you encounter issues with authentication or permissions, check if the generated API token in Jira has the necessary permissions.
  • Both Jira and Wiz documentation may have details on common errors or limitations you might encounter during the process.

Best regards

Hi @t476500 , welcome to the community.

Disclaimer: I am not personally familiar with Wiz.

what I have done in the past to accommodate similar integrations that you might want to consider:

  • use the APIs of the two applications
  • use Automation in Jira to send email update to the other application
  • use IFTTT to keep the two in sync

The obvious question for me is what methods of external update Control does Wiz support? Maybe someone that has actually use the tool and integrated the two will chime in here.
