email delivery delays

We are experiencing some long delays in receiving email notifications from JIRA (reports of up to 8 hours). We rely on these email notices to know that something needs to be done and at times the delay has caused us to almost miss deadline, but mostly it is a nuisance.

After receiving another problem report this morning I checked the mail queue at 11:12 am CST and found that there were 1511 mails in the queue since 8am CST.

We do have a couple of subscriptions setup that email all our JIRA users. One of them is to let all users know of assignments they have that are outstanding and it sends every Monday at 8am. I'm not sure if this is just overloading the system but we really need to have the ability for these notices to go out once/week and not put a significant delay on other notices.

Hi Brent,

I had the same problem 3 weeks earlier. I found the solution here. Check if you have the same problem. Basically when you send a lot of mails you need to give more memory to the Jira, take a look into the link.
