change component

Petra Wo November 29, 2011

once I added a story, I cannot find any button to change the component, if none is added or it is wrong.

Is there no possibility to change entries? Only add information, everybody needs to scan throught?

Thanks

You need to have edit permissions.

Then you should be able to "Edit" a story and set whatever field you wish.

If you use JIRA configuration out of the box, you should add yourself to Developers role in the project and that should grant you permissions.

Thank you for the idea.

I am in all users-groups now, but it did not work. We do not have roles for Developers (German Translation only 'Bearbeiter'). We had Greenhopper installed, but update still does not work. Obviously, there is no developers group, just jira-users. As jira-user it seems, I am not permitted.

So I tried JIRA Sandbox (http://sandbox.onjira.com) as well. There I am as a developer still not permitted. Or let's say, I could not find any button or opportunity to change the component. If I click on the link component, I just receive a report page.

I hope, you have some other hint for me. Thanks

It looks like on JIRA Sandobx users are deprived of edit issue permission.

So let's not play on this instance as it will lead to nowhere. You could try using Test project at https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/TST (you need to sign up)

But how about your instance? Adding yourself to all groups does not neccessarily grant you anything, as it's project permission configuration (permission scheme associated with the project you use) decides how groups and roles and users relate to permissions.

Please check which permission scheme your project uses and then in this permission scheme make sure that you (or a user group or a project role you belong to) have "Edit issues" permissions granted.

You may also type "gg" (if you are logged as an admin), then type "permission schemes", press Enter and you will see all permission schemes used by all projects. Locate then one which is associated with your project, click "Permissions" in this row in Operations column and check "Edit issues" permission there.

Thank you very much for your extensive answer.

I must confess, I have a problem to locate the correct definition page. It is too confusing.

What I tried:

I picked one project, edited the people within the project. There I added myself to users. Seems, that normally all jira-users are allowed to be "Bearbeiter" (I guess in engl. that's users).

I do have admin or manager or quality assurance there as well.

Now I exited Administration and picked one issue out of this project. But still, I cannot modify component.

So I went back to Administration, looked for Edit Issues permissions. I find something like that on a page, that lists all permissions for this project. But there is no possiblity to add anyone to that permission. It seems only create issues may have rights to do that, as I see there "jira-administrators")

Then I use the button on top right: "Actions".

I select "Edit permissions". There I get another list, which seems to have nothing to do with the list before. I am totally confused now. I try to add permissions "Vorgänge bearbeiten" and add the group I'm in for this project.

Go back out of Administration to a project issue: Nothing.

I must confess, I have no clue. Why is it so hard to understand your concept?

Where do I look for permission schemes for a project? I thought, I was on the correct page.

My project uses the standard permission scheme.

Where do I add Edit permissions to, to receive the permission to change the component?

Where do I type gg into? Which field? I am no administrator, although I have administrative rights.

I use a 10 users license. Does this have restrictions?

Thank you for your time and patience.

Hey, you need to have JIRA admin rights (not merely project admin rights) to be able to modify the permissions.

I hope that these pictures will help you.

If you still confused, I guess it's time to ask https://support.atlassian.com.

>Where do I add Edit permissions to, to receive the permission to change the component?

You need to make sure you have general edit permissions, as Wojciech says. That gives you an "edit" option on the issues. If you click that and are not offered "component/s" as an edit field, then it's been removed from the "edit" screen, and you need to add it back.
