basic password authentication still an option after datacenter license applied?

We are running Jira Software v8.13.1 and JSD v4.13.1.

We have both apps configured with mail handler using basic password authentication.

When we apply the DC license, will the mail handlers still work or will DC require oauth2 configuration for mail handlers?

Also, do I need to be at an enterprise version of Jira before applying DC license?

@Dawn Fama

Jira Server and Jira Data Center use the same mail handler.  OAuth2 is required if you use Gmail or MS Exchange Online.  This is do to the fact that both companies will no longer support basic authentication in the future.

From Atlassian's documentation: "This is mandatory if you have been or are planning on using Gmail or Microsoft Exchange Online. Both Google and Microsoft will disable Basic Authentication in the upcoming future, and once this happens, you will not be able to create issues and comments from email and your connection to the Gmail and/or Microsoft Exchange Online server will no longer be operational." https://confluence.atlassian.com/adminjiraserver/creating-issues-and-comments-from-email-938847641.html#Creatingissuesandcommentsfromemail-Stepone:ConfigureOAuth2.0integration

If you are upgrading from server to data center you will need to follow these steps to ensure that everything works properly.  https://confluence.atlassian.com/adminjiraserver0813/migrate-from-server-to-data-center-1027137480.html

Thank You Brant, yes, that was the Confluence page I was reviewing.  We are currently connecting to O365 Resource/managed mailboxes which require license and password to authenticate via secure IMAPS.

I learned you cannot configure shared mailboxes as a mailhandler.

It would be cool if the upgrade check had DC + version as option to upgrade to.

I thought I had heard or read somewhere in order to apply DC license you needed to be running an enterprise version, like 8.15 vs 8.13.1.  I cannot upgrade my server to 8.15 until all my add on apps catch up.

Hi Dawn,

Applying a Data Center license on the Versions and Licenses page (linked by Brant above, this is the same link) will convert your current Jira 8.13 / JSD 4.13 Server into a single-node Data Center instance. You do not need to upgrade to an LTS (formerly known as Enterprise) version of Jira before applying the Data Center license.

While many apps are Data Center compatible already, it is worth checking their Marketplace listings per the instructions here . I would expect that apps which are Data Center capable and are currently supported under 8.13 Server would likely be supported as 8.13 Data Center apps as well, vs needing to wait for 8.15 compatibility.

Cheers,

Great tip Daniel and a very simple check to see if app is compatible.  I was thinking it would be an added feature in JIRA server upgrade check and managed add ons update check to select datacenter from the version list.

Clarification for Migrate from Server to Data Center | Administering Jira applications Data Center and Server 8.13 | Atlassian Documentation

This paragraph seems to suggest you need to upgrade your add ons to datacenter version before applying DC license key?

Review and upgrade your apps

If you have any apps installed on your site, you'll need to upgrade to the Data Center app version, if one is available. To avoid any impact to your apps, we recommend you do this before you enter your Jira Data Center license key. Lear more about upgrading server apps when you migrate to Data Center.
