Why can I not see all User Stories in my Board?

I'm using a Kanban board with 8 columns:

BACKLOG

SUBMIT FOR APPROVAL

REQUIREMENTS GATHERING

IN PROGRESS...etc

I have 19 User Stories with a status = Backlog

But in the Kanban board, I only see 15 of them. Why don't the other 4 show up?

There are no custom filters on my board. And there are no special rules in place that I have set explicitly.

Hi @STEPHANIE PENLAND -- Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

What type of project are you using: company-managed or team-managed?  You may find that information in the list of projects or when viewing the board, at the bottom left side of the page.

For a team-managed project, issues must specifically be added to a Kanban board from the backlog, even when they are in the same status as the leftmost board column.  And so perhaps those four issues were not added to the board.

Hi @STEPHANIE PENLAND Welcome to the Atlassian Community

There's a couple of possibilities here:

• 4 stories were completed for over 2 weeks ago (the standard "Hide completed issues older than 2 weeks" filter on Kanban boards)
• 4 stories were done and released, thus removing them from the board
• 4 non-stories (epic, etc.) snuck into your list that were filtered out because of a different workflow
