Why are all the Sub-Task we create show as "No Request type" on our board

Lauren Morris October 31, 2024

We have a new Jira Board and we are using JSM. We have our workflows all setup and everything seems to be working fine. However, when we create a sub-task on a story it always shows on our board at "No Request Type". Aren't sub-task a request type? How can we assign a request type to these. On any issue including Epics, Bugs, or anything when you click Request type field the drop down says no available options. Could really use some help.

Hi @Lauren Morris , thanks for your question.

Request types are specific to JSM.

When you talk about Epics, Stories or Subtasks, these are issue types.

Here is the documentation that explains the difference between the two - https://support.atlassian.com/jira-service-management-cloud/docs/whats-the-difference-between-request-types-and-issue-types/

If you have more questions or doubts, please let us know.

Best wishes

Adding to this...

Subtask issue types cannot be associated with a Request Type.
