We are using an old version of Jira and want to update the platform. We don't know the information migration process or how the subscription works, since the only subscription we did was about 10 years ago. So, we are looking for more information about it. Currently, the Jira platform we are using is very slow and hinders the fluidity of our work.

Hello @RGS

Welcome to the Atlassian community.

Is your current platform Jira Server, Jira Data Center, or Jira Cloud?

If you click the Help button in the menu bar and look at the About option, what information do you get?

Jira Server has been discontinued. It is no longer possible to get a new Jira Server license.

Jira Data Center has a minimum user license purchase of 500 licenses.

For both of the above you would've had to set up your own servers and installed the Jira application and an appropriate database package.

The Jira Cloud product is a software-as-a-service product where Atlassian maintains the servers and upgrades for the Jira product. You manage the configuration of the application and users' access to it.

Jira Cloud has different types of subscriptions. You can pay on a monthly basis for the number of users you have granted licenses to as of the billing date, or you can establish a user tier where you pay annually based on a specified range of licenses you expect to need. You can have any number of users under Jira Cloud. The pricing information can be found here:

I suspect that you may have Jira Server since you said you have a low number of users and did your subscription 10 years ago. Jira Data Center would require you to have a license for more users and would have required renewals.

If you need to migrate from Jira Server/Data Center to Jira Cloud, Atlassian has provided quite a few documents on that topic.

If the managing an upgrade or migration seems daunting or beyond the skills of your personnel, you might want to engage an Atlassian Solution Partner. You can find a directory for them here:
