Hi Guys,

When I create a task with a sub task it is showing up in a different section from all my other tasks (above all other tasks) in a different view.

My developers find it very confusing and hard to keep track of..

Do you have any idea how can I unify between my regular tasks and my combined tasks (task+sub task)?

More relevant details:

Server Jira, scrum board, active board

Thanks you!

Shir

Your sub-task is being shown in a "swim lane" defined by its story.  If you don't want this, go to the board settings and choose a different swim lane setting.  (No swim lanes is one of the options)

It probably would have helped to have a screenshot of what you're seeing. I was going to answer making some assumptions, but it's actually better if you give a screenshot and some more details.

Is this server or cloud Jira? Is it a Kanban board or Scrum board? Is this the active board or backlog?

Morning

So yes, my assumptions about what your question is about were correct.

I've had the same problem in the past as you and it relates to having some issues with sub-tasks and others without. You also lose the priority with that view because the highest priority item may be in the bottom section. There are 2 solutions :

  1. Ensure that EVERY issue has a sub-task - we used to default to a Dev and Test sub-task. I realise that this isn't always ideal
  2. Switch the view. Go to Board settings and choose the Swimlanes menu item. Then change the dropdown from Stories (what yours currently is) to Queries. The view will then look like my screenshot below, where the purple items are sub-tasks. So in To Do, the parent (DS-176) is showing because it's in that status, but for In Progress, the parent (DS-28) is in a different status, so you get a "placeholder" for the parent.

Try switching it and seeing if it makes better sense for your board than what you currently have.
