Story points estimate not showing up on card

Selena Farris January 28, 2025

I am using a Team Managed Software project with a Kanban Board. My tickets (tasks) have Story Point Estimates assigned. How do I get these to show on the cards on the Kanban? If I need to change the project type I can, but I don't want to use sprints.

Also (nice to have), is it possible to have the Story Point Estimates total at the top instead of number of tickets?

Thanks!

Hi @Selena Farris

That is not possible for a team-managed project, Kanban board.  Here is a suggestion to add the feature: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRACLOUD-85694

There are pre-sets to allow show / hide specific fields for team-managed projects under the View Settings, but not for the Story Point Estimate field.

Often, the suggested "workaround" from Atlassian for differences between company-managed and team-managed project features is to use the type with the features you want.

Kind regards,
Bill

Hi @Francesco Arieta

Team-managed projects do not have the Card Layout, or most of the other board configuration features.  That is a feature of Company-managed projects.

Please read this documentation to learn more: https://support.atlassian.com/jira-software-cloud/docs/learn-the-basics-of-team-managed-projects/

Kind regards,
Bill

HI @Selena Farris ,

As long as you have the option to edit the board and have access to the card details, you can actually add up to 3 fields. However, not board types have this. It depends on your project setup. I have this option in my software project board that's running scrum. In another I have that is not scrum, it does not have this option.
