Hi,
Is it there any limit on the no: of lines for a comment added to an issue in JIRA. Is every line of the comment treated as a separate comment by itself ?
Say ,if we have a comment with 100 lines, how is this interpreted. Would it be a single comment, or is the comment broken down to multiple comments. what is the size limit for a comment.
Thanks
The number of lines don't really matter in and of themselves; they consume end-of-line characters (CR and/or LF), which contribute to the overall length of the comment, which may be limited by the jira.text.field.character.limit option in Advanced Settings.
@Preethi Srinivasan
No limit and no, not treated as separate comment by itself.
100 lines of comment is just 1 comment.
Important question back to you would be why you need comments in Jira of 100 lines.... ?
Surely no one on the team will read that... or?
Sounds like Wiki work that should be in Confluence and then linked to Jira. Intrigued to know more about your needs if you willing to share more info on the scenario you have at hand.

Hi Andy,
Thank you for your response. We were planning to do a performance testing for our JIRA instance/ As a part of the test approach, for each cycle we would be adding lot of comments. eg: 25000 comments in cycle1, 45000 in cycle 2 etc.
yes, agreed with you that 100 lines of comment is not a ideal condition. But the intent here was to understand how JIRA interpret a comment with many lines. Is there any sizing limit. So the number of lines in a single comment does not matter, a comment ( irrespective of no: of lines) is a comment. Is this understanding correct.
Appreciate your input.

WoW ! That is some performance testing! Do make sure that you come back to the Community and share your experience / results when you're finished!
Yes - that is the correct understanding!
