Renaming Agile Board

Lars Magnus Fylke January 15, 2025

With the new updates to Jira (2025), how do you rename a board?

In the older layout I could just rename it by clicking on the board name in the board view and enter a new board name. But with the latest updates this is not possible, and I cannot find the ability to rename the board anywhere.

We may not have been updated yet, but I can still change team managed board names by clicking on the board name and editing it

I am able to in my personal family Jira that's not been updated. But with the new updates in my company Jira it's gone.

Hi @Lars Magnus Fylke Welcome to the community!

To rename an agile board in Jira Cloud, you can:
Go to the board
Select More (...)
Select Configure board
Hover over the board settings screen and click the pencil icon
Edit the board name
Press Enter

"Select Configure board" takes me into the Project settings page, with Board->Columns and statuses selected. I cannot see any board settings screen to hover over there.

I also cannot see any board settings screen option in any of the other Board Project Settings (Custom filters, Card cover images, Timeline)

This is a Team managed Software project for reference.

Hi @Lars Magnus Fylke

The ebil devs of Jira past might've put this under board configuration.

:)

Kind regards,

Dick

I am unfortunately unable to find the option to rename a board under the board configuration.

The board configuration in the Project settings page does not seem to have the option to rename the board under any of the Board options (Columns and statuses, Custom filters, Card cover images, Timeline)

Cheers!

Hi @Lars Magnus Fylke

Are you an administrator of said board ? That's a pre-requisite to be able to edit it.

Kind regards,

Dick

I am an administrator of the project, and Jira. I am on the free version, which means everyone is an administrator.

I can add columns, and manage the workflow (which is updated to my preferences), change Issue Types, set up automation etc. which feels like it would require board admin rights?

Old instructions for how to change board administrator doesn't seem to be valid, https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Jira-questions/How-to-change-a-board-administrator/qaq-p/96223 or https://confluence.atlassian.com/jirasoftwareserver/configuring-a-board-938845252.html , these just seem completely out of date. Selecting "Configuration board" from the (...) menu in the desired board takes me to the project settings page, with Columns and statuses, Custom filters, Card cover images, and Timeline as the only Board screens. None of these contain admin or renaming options.

In the past I have renamed boards directly in the boards view, this does not seem to be an option any more unfortunately.

Cheers!

Dick
