Reader permission issue on project.

Rahul K February 24, 2025

Hello Team, Facing some wired permission issues  Issue with the project access stuff that we tested: When a user is added to the "reader" role, they should be able to browse issues in my project but when they go to the project home screen they see the message "No issues were found"

Hello @Rahul K

Welcome to the Atlassian community.

"reader" is not a role that comes out of the box with Jira. That must be a role that your Jira Administrators added to your instance.

Each project will have a Permissions Scheme. Projects can also share a Permission Scheme. When a user is added to a Role in a project they will obtain the permissions associated with that Role in the Permissions Scheme associated with the project.

You will need to examine the Permissions Scheme associated with the project to confirm that the "reader" role has been granted the Browse Projects permission.

Hello Trudy, Thanks for that information, Do I need to be local admin on Jira ?
I am currently a admin on that Project queue which is missing the Reader role.

If you are the administrator of the Project you should be able to view the Permissions Scheme for the project by going to Project Settings and selecting Permissions. You won't be able to modify that Permission Scheme. You would have to ask your Jira Administrators to make the modification.

Try assigning Browse Projects permission to the individual user and see if it fixes it.

Hello Richard, I don't see this permission.
