Rapid Board for current Sprint?

We have a rapid board the need to show issues for the current sprint. The current sprint is something that is determined externally (roughly every two weeks, but with some exceptions).

Is there a way to filter issues in the rapid board according to external resource? I'd like to hit any API, get the current print and then update the filter (something like "fixVersion in $(current_sprint)").

I guess I could do it myself with an outside cron job. However I was wondering if there's a builtin way to do it.
