Hi Jira Pro's,

Summary

Is it possible to have:

- multiple projects

- a single board which can show all the issue (per developer) but over multiple projects.

So during standup, I would love to see all our developers, what they are working on (issues) and under what project(s).

Details

I'm looking to migrate away from a competitor over to JIRA. I've had previous JIRA experience (like, a decade+) which is why I'm considering migrating over to JIRA.

I'm in a Software Development company where we have multiple different clients with their own bespoke projects/applications.

I'm was thinking that each client would be a different PROJECT.

I'm then assuming that each project would have one more more boards .. but I would just stick with one board that has it's own issues (related to that project of course).

But, when we do our daily standups, we would want to see a board "above" all the projects. Some times (in a sprint) a developer might be handed multiple issues/cards in 2 or more projects. i.e. they are jumping between projects, during a sprint .. fixing things.

Is this possible?

If so - please also confirm what pricing/billing this would work with/for. I'm looking into the BASIC plan initially. Dev team would be about 15 seats to start out with.

Can anyone help me here please?

Hello @Justin ,

Good day! :)

To answer your questions:

  1. Yes, you can have multiple projects on your jira site, dedicating each client with a different project.
  2. In order to have a board to show issues from multiple projects, you would need to modify the filter of the board and make sure filter includes all the projects from where you would like to fetch issues.
Example: If you have 2 projects, A, and B and you would like the board to show issues from these 2 projects, then filter query would be
    Project = A and Project = B
  3. You can find pricing plans in this document: Jira Pricing & Licensing

Some articles you can use for reference:

Thank you!

Hi @Shalini Pradhan and thank you kindly for the prompt reply.

What I don't understand is that I thought a board is linked/inside a project.

so would this mean I would go to Project A -> create a board .. but ... filter by Project A and B ?

As to pricing, I'm not sure where this filtering is available to? Any pricing level? Basic? Premium?

Also, I appreciate the links in the answer - very helpful also 🤗

Hello @Justin ,

Good day! :)

A jira board is just a visual representation of your team's work and accompanies each Jira project by default.

Now, in company managed projects, we haveMultiple and cross-project boards

  • Multiple boards: In Jira, you can create multiple boards within a single company-managed project as per your requirement
  • Cross-project boards: In Jira, you can create cross-project boards that pull issues from multiple projects.

In team managed projects, you can only create one board per project

Considering your use case, you can have multiple projects having their dedicated boards and create a new board in your profile which can be used to view issues from all projects.

For that, first you would need to create a new filter and include all the projects

  • Navigate to your site -> search bar -> View all issues
  • Create your filter and save it

Now you need to create a new board using this filter

  • Navigate to your site -> Your work -> Boards -> View all boards
  • Click Create Board

  • Select if you want a Scrum board or Kanban

  • Select " Board from an existing Saved Filter " and click Next
    Screenshot 2025-01-30 at 2.08.24 PM.png
  • Give a name to your board, select the filter that you just created above and from location, select 'your profile' and create
    Screenshot 2025-01-30 at 2.08.40 PM.png
  • Now this board will not be created in any project , but will stay in your profile
  • You can always go to Your work -> Boards -> View all boards and access that board and present that in your standup, which will show all the work from all the projects.

We have different pricing levels per user on monthly/ annual basis depending on which license you choose: Standard, Enterprise or Premium. You can reach out to Atlassian's licensing and billing team and they will be able to share more information on this.

Thank you!
