New Default Watcher not appearing

Hi there! I have an interesting issue, not sure if i'm missing a step but usually this has worked out fine for me. I have a project where I'm trying to set a new Default watcher, and I set them up accordingly in Project Settings/Users and Roles/ and added them as a user with a default watcher check box, in addition to a few others. However when I go to create a new ticket, their name does not show up in the Default watchers listing. Is there something else I need to do? Thanks!

I dont think there is a setting for a default watcher in the project. You could just create an automation to add the watcher when an issue is created. 

It would mean though that this user could be bombarded by notifications.

The version that we have does have a default watcher check box actually in the user and roles section of the project. the others we have setup this way are in there with the creation of each ticket, just not this specific person. When you say automation, where would that be done?
