Migrate Jira from one instance to another instance

Rajshri Reddy January 28, 2025

I have around 20 projects which I want to move from one to another instance. It consists of workflows, custom filed, Attachments, comments, permissions, users, groups, automation rules, integration with slack and Microsoft teams and everything a project consists of.

I have gone through the below link which is not suitable for my requirement.

Copy Jira data | Atlassian Support

I don't find Data Management option in the settings section.

Is Deep clone for Jira is good to migrate the data? In that by using instance clone and project clone.

or Should I use export and import the data using XML or CSV files.

Can you suggest the best way to migrate the data from one instance to another. I don't want to use another 3rd party apps.

Thanks

Hi @Rajshri Reddy

the Cloud to Cloud Migration works quite well and imo much better than any XML import, as it imports Projects, Boards, Issues and Users at the same time.

You find that in the Organisation Level Administration: admin.atlassian.com > Settings > Data Management

If you can't find the option, could you share a screenshot of the place you'd expect it?

Adding to this...

You can find the documentation for the Copy Data feature here:

https://support.atlassian.com/organization-administration/docs/copy-product-data/

Be sure to review the documentation carefully and assess risks and limitations of the process such as (but not limited to):

- it may not migrate data provided/managed by a third party app

- automation rules are not included

- some workflow functions are not included

- you must be an Organization Admin and a Jira Product Admin in both the source and destination sites/organizations
