Kanban Card Layout

Gary October 23, 2024

Hi,

I'm looking to change a couple of things about the card layout and appearance on my Kanban board.

Firstly, is there a way to display percentage completion on the card itself, so you don't have to click on the issue to see the percentage?

Also, I'd like the cards to be ordered in each swimlane by due date. The card at the top of the swimlane would be due soonest.

All help appreciated.

Cheers,

Gary

Hi @Gary

We aware that we lack a native "Progress" field to display percentage completion on Kanban cards.

You can try this option by tracking progress using Story Points, Time Tracking, or a Custom Field. To display percentage completion, create a custom field in JIRA Admin > Issues > Custom Fields, then add it to your Kanban card layout under Board settings.

Otherwise, utilize JIRA's progress bar by adding Story Points or Remaining Estimate fields to your card layout.

For ordering cards by due date in swimlanes, JIRA requires a workaround.

Create a JQL filter (ORDER BY duedate ASC) and apply it in Board settings > General > Filter query.

Hope this helps - Happy to help further!!
Thank you very much and have a great one!
Warm regards

Hi @Gary

For your second question, the order of the cards in each swimlane is defined in the board filter.

To change this you can edit the filter, and change the order to be by due date.

From the 3 dots (ellipses) dropdown choose configure board:

configure board.png

From the general settings choose Edit filter query

edit filter query.png

Update the filter to finish with ORDER BY duedate ASC, click on the search magnifying glass and then save the filter (copy filter will change to save filter)
