Jira software parallel sprints

In JIRA 7.1 a "new" question concept of "parallel sprints" is introduced. Can someone tell me what is changed versus previous JIRA  (and Agile) versions ? We do parallel sprints since JIRA v5 (and Agile) : we have different teams having there own sprint sharing a same backlog, and so the same board. There was no limitation on making a (planned) spint active in a board when there was still a sprint open.

I hoped (sad) that they would solve the velocity graph problem when running different sprints in parallel, but that's not the case sadsad

So what is the "new" feature ?
