Can someone suggest a Jira template that can be used for tracking of bugs and fixes, We also want to be able to use it for writing user stories for new issues. Please state the relevant swim lanes from issue intake to done. This template is for use after an application has gone live. Thank you!

Hi @tive_ekpere and welcome to the community

If you are asking about a Jira project template then the default Bug Tracking template would be a good starting point since it includes all relevant issue types.

However its default workflow (To Do → In Progress → In Review → Done) is quite minimal and may need enhancement. The workflow can be extended by adding statuses like:

  • Backlog – For newly reported issues before prioritization.
  • Ready for Development – Approved for work.
  • Ready for QA / QA in Progress / QA Passed – To better track testing phases.
  • Deployed or Monitoring – For post-deployment observation.

You can also organize swim lanes by Critical Bugs, Major Bugs, Minor Bugs, and Enhancements for better visibility. Additionally, introducing a Severity field could help with prioritizing issues based on their impact.

If you want to streamline the process further there are Jira add-ons like Smart Templates or Checklist with templates that can help you create and manage the process more efficiently. For more info check out this article.

Hope it helps!

Thank you Olena. It helps. A board that can handle all issue types is what I'm looking for.
