However when I access JIRA via my external URL

Both virtual hosts work, however I would like jira to have the same behaviour as confluence. The problem here is that I have to fill in a different base URL than the one the user originally connects to.

You learn most by solving your own problems, and I did.

ProxyName="jira.domain.nl" instead of "atlas.domain.nl"
