Is it possible to use buckets similar to sprints in Kanban mode?

Hi, as a product manager I would like to add buckets to my backlog in order to organize it. The buckets should have a similar functionality as a sprint bucket in a Scrum project.

I appreciate suggestions.

Hello @Moritz Lindenau

Welcome to the Atlassian community.

No, that is not possible with a Kanban board.

The only "buckets" available are the full "backlog" list and the "first column of the board" list above it.

Can you tell us more about how you want to organize your issues? Is this something you could do by using something like Epics, or Components, or Labels, and then using the filtering options to show a subset of the issues that match your selection?

Hi @Trudy Claspill

Thank you for your reply. To your suggestions:

  • We already use Epics for organisation on another level, unfortunately that doesn't work.
  • Filtering via labels is an option, but I find it much more complicated.
  • Components are unfortunately not available in a TMP (I don't understand why).

I would like to be able to drag and drop individual items into the following buckets, for example:

  • Tasks for specific teams
  • Update tasks / release plan
  • Ready for dev refinement

You can add your vote to the Suggestion to add Components to Team Managed projects:

https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JSWCLOUD-17601

You can use the Team field to "assign" tasks to specific teams that you create. Refer to

https://support.atlassian.com/atlassian-account/docs/what-is-an-atlassian-team/

https://support.atlassian.com/atlassian-account/docs/using-atlassian-teams-in-jira-projects/

You could consider using Release Versions and a custom field for indicating the Planned Release Version, upon which you could then filter. You can't create a custom Version field within the Team Managed project, but you could re-use such a field created at the Global level. Refer to

https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Jira-Cloud-Admins-articles/Announcing-the-ability-to-re-use-global-custom-fields-in-team/ba-p/2209113

You may want to create a status for "Ready for dev refinement". You could then filter the issues by that status.
